This project consisted of constructing a new FrontRunner commuter rail station and a second track on the existing commuter rail line originally built by Stacy Witbeck. The station, located on a shared corridor with Union Pacific, included the platform, platform canopies, and associated amenities and systems.
Need
This station serves the growing community of Vineyard, Utah, providing residents and visitors with direct access to the commuter rail line. It was installed during the construction of a planned Downtown Vineyard development, which includes corporate offices, high density housing, and retail, with walking and bicycle access to the station. The double tracking performed in conjunction with the station was the first double tracking project since the original construction of the alignment, providing increased reliability along the route.

Innovations
To prepare for the cold winter months, the team incorporated a snow melt system into the station platform. This system pumps a hot water and glycol mixture through a series of tubes embedded into the platform slab to keep the platform free from snow and ice, providing added safety and comfort for passengers.
Crews also installed 950 LF of rubber gap filler along the edge of the station platform to improve safety and ADA access. Developed in Australia and installed as a trial in 2021, this relatively new technology helps prevent people, particularly children, from falling and getting trapped in the gap. It also facilitates improved access for persons in wheelchairs. This is the first UTA platform to utilize the technology.
